Our digitized radiography system provides dental images with 80% less radiation than conventional x-rays. Unlike small x-ray films, digital x-ray images can be magnified up to 300 times their normal size and can be viewed instantaneously on a screen right beside you!
Digital radiography is an invaluable tool for diagnosis. We can adjust contrast and colour to reveal hidden problems, make more accurate measurements, and even back-light teeth to see things that can’t be seen with conventional film. Our high-magnification camera and large-screen monitor allow you to see exactly what we see. We want you to understand the treatment we recommend.
Velscope is a dental tool that is available for discovering irregularities in the mouth. Velscope’s blue light is used to distinguish healthy tissue from tissue that is traumatized or diseased. Healthy tissue fluoresces in a pattern that is distinctly different than non-healthy tissue, and Velscope can aid health care providers in finding concerning developments before they are visible to the naked eye.
Because Velscope can discover issues early on, life-threatening conditions such as oral cancer can be caught before they spread, potentially saving lives. Ask one of our trained staff members for more information.
Soft Tissue Laser
Soft tissue lasers are effective in a number of different ways. We can use the laser to greatly enhance the appearance of your smile by contouring your gums in a minimally disruptive way. This involves no bleeding and is a relatively pain-free procedure.
Our soft-tissue laser can also be used to prevent a cold sore from developing. When you feel a cold sore starting, come in, and we can laser it off. This will prevent the sore from growing, essentially stopping it in its tracks.
Ask us about the different ways in which our soft tissue laser can help you achieve your ideal smile!
We want you to leave relaxed, happy and excited to show off that beautiful smile!
iTero Element Scanner
The iTero Element Scanner is a digital impression system that eliminates the need for messy putty in your mouth. With our iTero Element Scanner, we can digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and gums. Not only is this process far more comfortable than the old putty based impressions, but it’s faster and can offer a clean clinical endpoint.
- No goop or gag to worry about
- Fast, accurate impression
- Ideal for crowns, bridges, implants, and Invisalign® clear aligners and retainers
- See a simulation of your potential Invisalign treatment outcome
During the impression process, you can breathe or swallow as you normally would. You can even pause during the process if you need to sneeze or just want to ask a question. The scanner gives us a 3D model of your mouth that can be used for your dental services including the Invisalign Outcome Simulator to show you what your new smile might look like.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Oral Appliance Therapy
Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Obstructive sleep apnea occurs when your muscles relax during sleep, allowing the soft tissue to collapse and block the airway. As a result, sleep apnea causes you to stop breathing up to hundreds of times a night for anywhere from a few seconds to more than a minute. Snoring, excessive daytime sleepiness, memory problems, irritability, fatigue and insomnia are all signs that you could be losing shut-eye to sleep apnea. If left untreated, sleep apnea can be a potentially life threatening condition. It can increase the risk for other serious health problems such as high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, depression and impotence.
The traditionally prescribed treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. It involves sleeping with a face mask connected by tubing to a constantly running machine. Although CPAP is effective, up to half of patients don’t adhere to the treatment. Dentists can provide an alternate sleep solution with oral appliance therapy.
Oral Appliance Therapy
Oral appliance therapy is an effective, non-invasive treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea that fits easily into your lifestyle. A dental oral appliance looks like a sports mouth guard and is worn only during sleep. It supports the jaw in a forward position to help maintain an open upper airway, preventing sleep apnea and snoring.
Once you have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, a dentist experienced in dental sleep medicine can make a custom-fitted oral appliance using models of your teeth. Oral appliance therapy is covered by many medical insurance plans. Patients like it because it’s comfortable, easy to wear, quiet, portable, convenient for travel and easy to clean.
Treating snoring or sleep apnea with oral appliance therapy can help you feel like a new person. You will find that your symptoms, and your quality of life, can improve dramatically when you remain committed to your treatment and use it nightly. Custom-fit oral appliances from Copperfield Dental Center can improve your sleep, restore your alertness and revitalize your health.
